The perfect eyebrow shape can transform the overall appearance of the face: it lifts the eye area, emphasizes natural facial features and gives a fresher expression.
A style that looks good on someone else is not automatically the right shape for you. Whether over-plucked arches should grow back or bushy brows should be shaped: the shape of the face provides important guidance.
Face Shapess
A round face shape can be recognised by a soft, curved chin. The cheekbones are the widest part of the face, with the face being almost as wide as it is long.
Rounded brows make a round face appear even rounder. Soft, slightly arched brows with height at the arch and length at the ends create the illusion of a longer face.
With an oval face, the forehead is not much wider than the chin. An oval face has a soft chin and gently curved sides.
Most eyebrow styles suit oval faces. To enhance the brows, angles that are too hard should be avoided and the features should be kept soft.
Square face shapes are strong and defined, with straight sides and a square jawline.
The brows should be angular so that they do not contradict the natural shape of the face. A raised arch and an extended end help to visually lengthen the face.
An elongated, long or rectangular face shape has similar characteristics to a square face. The forehead, cheeks and jawline are approximately the same width, with a slight curve in the chin.
Extended ends and brows that start further apart can create the illusion of a wider forehead. An angular shape flatters the natural facial features.
In a heart-shaped face, the forehead is the widest part with a narrow, pointed chin. The right brows can make the forehead appear smaller and the chin appear softer.
Softly shaped brows with a slight curve fit particularly well. Shorter, closer together brows draw attention to the centre of the face.
The pear-shaped or triangular face shape features a pronounced jawline that tapers down to the hairline.
Eyebrows that are too short or flat do not complement this face shape. Longer and curved brows can make the lower half of the face appear narrower.
